Qualia - "The felt or phenomenal qualities associated with experiences, such
as the feeling of a pain, or the hearing of a sound, or the viewing of a colour.
To know what it is like to have an experience is to know its qualia. "

remember when we were kids? when happiness was a text message away and we had the opposite sex all figured out? i remember when we spilled secrets on dog eared edges of textbooks, solved problems with prose and wore big sunglasses to hide red eyes (before paris hilton).
& now that we're older and 'wiser' we've realised that 'i love you' doesn't come with the gaurantee of forever and the opposite sex aren't just there for procreation (occassionally they've been known to hold and open things). we've realised we're the ones with the problems and that's not such a bad thing. we scrawl fears on lecture pads, hide bruises with foundation and try to laugh away whatever the vodka leaves behind.
But then there are those moments, when cliched silences and our histories collide. when empathy moves one step further and becomes a shared wound. it's in those twilight moments when we're watching the rest of the world that it all comes together.
we don't need Kesey's LSD for this.

oh &,
prostitutes & porcelain for life.
beautiful words there Min. I disagree with you on one point. Love is forever, it's just that people abuse its expression now. They just whip it out without thinking of the impact it has on others. Same with hate. Still people need to say what they mean more, and feel comfortable to say exactly what they mean without guilt.
Getting older just makes me realize more & more the instability of the definition of good moral behavior. There are areas of extremes that are mostly agreed upon but the rest all fall ultimately under personal philosophy. right according to who?
The impermanence of any sort of relationship between people is a reality that needs to be accepted as quickly as possible in life. Enjoy good company while you can because it is always possible that whatever qualities, mutual interests, institutions, and relationships that bring people together can just as easily tear them apart. Plus, you never know when is the last time you see a person that's close to you.
(just as an ending side note, I mostly dislike the you're with me or against me sensibility that comes with close relationships of any type that come with time because it makes reasonable disagreement much more complicated)
thanks Min, now thoughts are buzzing around my head of the nature of human interrelationships.
:-)
